Inter-urban Buses
Costa Rica has a network of inter-city buses
that is efficient, cheap and punctual, but often comfort
is at a minimum. There are exceptions: the route San José-Puntarenas,
San José-Limón and San José-Liberia.
Some companies allow selling tickets hours, sometimes days,
in advance, but that does not mean one has a guaranteed numbered
seat. Return tickets cannot be purchased from the place of
departure. Remember: There are direct routes with very few
stops, and indirect routes, which stop often and take longer.
Indirect routes are less expensive.
